Just for fun, and in honor of Indiana Jones Episode 4 coming out this week. No review required of this track, but Wind Ensemble, please do review "Cowboys".
Enjoy!
Please read along in your part while you listen to this recording. Think about the review you made (comments int he music)during rehearsal.
Is your review different now? Compare the two listening experiences and post a review.
Please compare this recording, Bartok - Take 2 with Bartok - Take 1. Was it better? What differences did you hear between Take 1 and Take two, specifically regarding measures 41- the end?
First draft recording. Please practice section three as agreed upon in rehearsal. Identify your section in this recording, evaluate and correct (in your home practice time) the following:
1. intonation
2. steady beat (don't let the changing time signitures fool you. The beat should remain constant throughout section 3)
3. subdivisions (eigth notes should line up precisely on the down and up beats. Be careful not to use too much bow.)
Read along in your part while you listen to the recording.
1. Was everyone in your section together with the metronome?
2. Did everyone rest at the correct times?
Give your section a rating from 1-10.

Directions:
Please read along in your music while you listen to this recording. Circle each measure in which your section does not sound together.
Above each "not together" measure, write why it's not together. (Just one word, "rhythm, beat, notes, intonation" etc). Practice those parts at home, fixing any errors.
Post your constructive, specific observations. Posts and written analysis are due by rehearsal on Thursday, February 28th.

Attention South Lake Musicians!
I am pleased to announce a new addition to our podcasting experience. South Lake Solo Projects is now open!
This new podcast is open to any South Lake musician who would like to post an original recording. Please see Mr. Grenier for details. In the mean time, check out our demo recording:
Artistic Focus:
1. Balance - could you hear each part equally? Also, were all singers within each part singing with the same volume? Remember, we want the quieter voices to sing louder, not the louder voices to sing quieter.
2. Steady Beat - we want all parts to fit together rhythmically. Most of this harmony is created by a round, so the parts should fit well together.
Directions: Singers, please grade our performance based on our two Artistic Focuses. Then include at least one musical thing you would add to the song that would make it more enjoyable for an audience to listen to.
Posts are due by rehearsal on Thursday, February 14th, 2008.
Note: This is a re-post. Recording and assignment are the same, but all posts are now due by rehearsal on Tuesday, 2/12/08
Our Artistic Focus for this piece:
Intonation - We stopped to tune every instrument in the band for this recording, so pay particular attention to the intonation within each section. If our instruments are in tune, then the song should be in tune, right?
Not necessarily. While you listen to this song, think of at least one other factor that effects pitch.
Assignment Directions: Identify at least one factor that made your section sound out of tune. (Every section was out of tune at some point in this recording).
No grades necessary for this assignment. Just a comment posted. Posts are due by 10:02 AM Thursday, February 7th, 2008.
Our Artistic Focus for this piece:
1. Steady Beat - There is no other focus. We are only concerned in this recording with section playing its' part precisely and on the common steady beat.
Think of it this way. Each part (Violin I, Violin II, Violin III, Viola and Cello) is a puzzle piece, and each piece can only fit together using the same steady beat.
Directions: Listen to the recording, following along in your music. For each time your section doesn't fit with the rest of the orchestra, mark off five points.
Post grades and comments, then practice your part, correcting any rhythmic errors you identified. Posts are due by the start of rehearsal Thursday, February 7th, 2008.
Artistic Focus:
1. Rhythm: sections should play their part with precise rhythm and with a communal steady beat.
2. Notes: all parts should be played with all correct fingerings and accidentals.
Directions: Read your part in your music while you listen to this recording. Grade you section, deducting two points for every mistake, then practice your part and fix any mistakes you may have heard.
Post your grade and comments by 12:47 pm Thursday February 7th, 2007,
In this first draft, our artistic focus is:
1. Steady beat: within and between each section
2. Rhythm: all rhythms should be correct within each section
3. Notes: all notes, including accidentals, should be correct for each section.
Concert Band: All reviews are due and should be posted by Thursday, January 31st, 2008.
Our focus improvement for this, our second version of Twilght Sleighride is intonation.
1. accidentals - All sections should play the C naturals and F naturals as such.
2. pitch - All notes should sound the same throughout each section. Listen especially for all C naturals and F naturals.
String Orchestra - All reviews are due and should be posted by 12:22 PM next Thursday January 31st.
This 2nd draft of Autumn Vesper should be an improvement over the first draft in the following ways:
1. Harmony - We've added the 2nd vocal part, which creates a lovely harmonic setting. Both harmony and melody should be balanced in volume, with out one section louder than the other.
2. Pitch- Both sections of the ensemble should sound in tune to their own part.
Chorus: All reviews are due and should be posted by 8:00 AM on Thursday, January 31st, 2008
This Newcastle - draft 2 should sound better than our first draft in the following ways:
1. Articulation - there should be a clear (and correct) difference between our staccato and legato articulations. Each should be performed when marked in your part. Also, all slurs should be played as written.
2. Dynamics - should be played where appropriate. All crescendos, diminuendos pianos, fortes, etc should sound the same throughout the piece.
Wind Ensemble: all reviews, including grades, should be posted by 8:00 AM on Thursday, January 31st.
The focus of this recording is the following:
1. dynamics/ balance (can you hear all members of the band evenly?)
2. articulations
Concert Band Members:
- Read along in your music while you listen. Reviews are due Friday, January 25th.
Our focus goals for this song include:
1. Rhythm
2. Notes (not intonation per se, but accidentals)
3. Bow Lifts
String Orchestra Members:
- Bow direction is, of course, visual and will be noted in rehearsal.
- Listen and follow along in your music. Reviews are due 1/24/08
In this, our first draft of Fanfare and Finale, we are focusing on the following:
1. Articulation
2. Intonation
3. Rhythm
Wind Ensemble members- listen and follow along in your music. Reviews are due Jan. 24th, 2008
The focus of this particular recording is a very solid, steady beat/ subdivision throughout the entire song and ensemble. Balance is also noted here.
Future recordings will feature improved articulations and intonations. Enjoy!
The focus of this rough draft recording is to maintain the steady beat, set by our drum kit player, throughout the entire song. You'll notice the corrections and rhythmic changes made by the group during the two rhythmic breaks.
Up coming rehearsals will focus on improved balence/ blend and intonation. Enjoy!
This recording features our full String Orchestra. It is an early rough draft, and our focus in this recording is maintaining a steady subdivision within each section.
Further recordings will highlight improved intonation among the entire orchestra as well as group articulations as identified by our "Good Orchestra/ Great Orchestra" principles. Enjoy!
This rough draft recording features a basic focus on words and melody. Our next recording will add harmony and improved diction. Enjoy!
Featuring our percussion section - this tune rocks!
Our focus for this work-in-progress is balence and articulations. Enjoy!
Enjoy this demo! Brandenburg Concerto #3 1st mvt.
